He’s cashing in on some serious ‘Cuo’ funding.
Andrew Cuomo’s challenge to take down the leading mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani picked up momentum this week – with the former governor amassing a remarkable $400,000 in donations after Eric Adams withdrew from the race.
This impressive fundraising figure was achieved within two days of Hizzoner’s announcement regarding his independent re-election withdrawal on Sunday, a source from the campaign disclosed.
The funds collected came close to the $421,000 garnered by Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa throughout the filing period from August 19 to September 29.
“Voters are just starting to focus on this election, and they desire a safe, affordable city to live in. They trust Andrew Cuomo’s experience will allow him to deliver results and hit the ground running from Day One,” stated Bill Bulrow, Chairman of Cuomo for NYC.
Cuomo, who is competing as an independent in the November election, has raised a total of $940,000 during the filing period, with $334,000 qualifying for public matching funds.
Conversely, all of Sliwa’s $421,000 will qualify for matching funds, while Mamdani has already reached the maximum amount for contributions.
Mamdani dismissed Cuomo’s fundraising successes at a press conference on Friday.
“I can assure you that, thanks to the backing of everyday New Yorkers, we are not concerned about fundraising for this election,” Mamdani remarked, proudly noting that his campaign’s average donation stands at $25 per donor.
“While Andrew Cuomo is busy wooing donors, I am looking forward to directly connecting with New Yorkers,” he added.
The latest donations for Cuomo averaged $328 per contributor, while Sliwa reported an average of $118.
The limit for individual contributions in city mayoral contests is set at $2,100, as per campaign finance regulations.
Each of the candidates has recently spent over $600,000 on television advertisements, moving the election into a more competitive phase.
