Google has officially announced that it will be expanding AirDrop compatibility to more Android devices in the near future. The Vice President of Engineering for the Android platform, Eric Kay, shared this news during a press briefing at Google’s Taipei office. Now that the engineering team has successfully tested the feature, Google is working with its partners to bring AirDrop compatibility to a wider range of Android devices.
The journey towards Android AirDrop compatibility began with the introduction of the feature on the Google Pixel 10 series in November. Following this, chip maker Qualcomm announced that AirDrop support would be extended to non-Pixel Android phones powered by Snapdragon chips. Additionally, British tech brand Nothing also confirmed plans to add AirDrop compatibility to its devices, paving the way for more brands to follow suit.
