Anna October’s Hopeful Collection in the Midst of Crisis
In the midst of a frigid winter in Kyiv, where many people are facing challenges with water, electricity, and heat, Anna October and her team continue to persevere. Despite the difficult circumstances, hope remains a driving force behind their creative endeavors.
Reflecting on the past is a common practice during times of crisis, often viewed through a nostalgic lens. During a Zoom call from Paris, October shared how memories of her late mother have influenced her latest collection. Her mother’s words of wisdom, such as “Anna, you’re a lady, behave in an elegant and ladylike way,” have played a significant role in shaping October’s own personality. However, October clarifies that her collection is not merely a trip down memory lane. Instead, she has taken a kaleidoscopic approach to her childhood, extracting meaningful and delightful fragments to inspire her designs.
One of the standout pieces in October’s collection is a strapless dress crafted from celadon satin, featuring corset-like construction that extends into flowing tiers. Another elegant creation includes a bias-cut dress with shirred fabric belt and long sleeves adorned with streamers, all made from the same luxurious material.
Known for her love of dramatic capes, October has incorporated several airy caped looks in her collection. She believes that wearing a cape exudes confidence and presence in any room, while also adding a sense of movement that inspires dance.
