Excitement Builds for Vogue World in Milan
Italy’s Belle Époque jewel of fashion, shopping, dining, and culture, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, is set to host Milan’s upcoming “Olympics of fashion,” Vogue World, as revealed by Anna Wintour today.
During a launch event hosted by Milan’s mayor Giuseppe Sala, Condé Nast’s chief content officer and global editorial director of Vogue, Anna Wintour, shared fresh details about this year’s Vogue World. She expressed her personal admiration for Milan, stating, “Coming to this city a few times a year for the past several decades has been one of the great pleasures of my life.”
Wintour announced that the elegant, 50-meter-high arcade, completed in 1877, will serve as the location for the fifth edition of Vogue World on September 22, coinciding with the first day of Milan Fashion Week. The event aims to celebrate international craft and promote cultural exchange, emphasizing the importance of supporting local initiatives in Milan.
Previous editions of Vogue World in New York, London, Paris, and Los Angeles have raised over $7 million for local charities focused on creative education and community support. This year, funds raised will benefit initiatives in Milan that support local craft, design capability, and cultural preservation. Wintour emphasized Vogue’s commitment to contributing to cultural initiatives that serve the public good.
At the announcement event, attended by Italian fashion leaders and luminaries including Francesca Ragazzi, head of editorial content at Vogue Italia, as well as representatives from Prada, Valentino, and La Scala, the theme for this year’s Vogue World, “Where The Future Is Made By The Hand”, was discussed. Alessandro Michele of Valentino highlighted the intersection of Italy’s tradition of handmade craftsmanship with the potential of AI, comparing it to the transformative impact of the Gutenberg Press.
Lorenzo Bertelli of Prada emphasized the importance of sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry, stating that AI and automation should be seen as tools to enhance, not replace, artisanal expertise. He described sustainability as a driving force for innovation at Prada Group.
Mayor Sala praised the collaboration between Vogue World and the city of Milan, describing it as a “double honor” that not only brings economic investment but also supports worthy causes in the local community. He highlighted the significance of the fashion industry in Milan’s sociocultural landscape and welcomed the opportunity to invest in initiatives that align with the city’s values.
Vogue World, often likened to the Olympics of fashion, symbolizes a global gathering of industry experts and creatives. The event serves as a platform to showcase the best in the field and foster collaboration and innovation within the fashion community.
