Anonymous Content España, in collaboration with Anonymous Content and Morena Films from Spain, is set to produce a new series based on the tragic events of the 1981 Toxic Oil Syndrome in Spain. This particular incident is considered one of the deadliest cases of food poisoning in modern European history, claiming the lives of thousands of people and affecting countless others physically and psychologically.

The upcoming series, yet to be titled, marks the first project announced by Anonymous Content España and highlights its goal to transform local stories into premium television content with both local impact and international reach. Managing Director, Beatriz Campos, expressed the company’s ambition to elevate the narrative of the Toxic Oil Syndrome through this collaboration.

Alea Media, known for its successful and diverse range of TV productions such as “Patria” and “Wrong Side of the Tracks,” will partner with Anonymous Content España on this project. Aitor Gabilondo, the founder of Alea Media, will lead the creative and writing process alongside his team.

The series will delve into the 50 days following the death of a young boy from unknown causes to the official revelation of contaminated rapeseed oil as the culprit behind the epidemic. It will showcase various perspectives, including those of the victims and their families, as well as the efforts of two dedicated paediatricians working to contain the outbreak.

The tragedy of the Toxic Oil Syndrome has left a lasting impact on multiple generations, making it a compelling subject for a character-driven series. The narrative will explore the heroic efforts of the medical professionals trying to solve the mystery behind the illness, adding a sense of urgency and suspense to the storyline.

While the official cause of the syndrome was attributed to contaminated cooking oil, there have been doubts raised about the veracity of this claim. The series may shed light on the poor management of the crisis and the lingering questions surrounding the true cause of the poisoning.

Anonymous Content’s international expansion also plays a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition. The company has established partnerships with various international entities to support the creation and distribution of content on a global scale.

As the series on the Toxic Oil Syndrome unfolds, viewers can expect a gripping and thought-provoking narrative that delves into a tragic chapter in Spain’s history. With a focus on authenticity and impactful storytelling, Anonymous Content España and Alea Media are poised to deliver a compelling series that resonates with audiences worldwide.
