Renowned for his plush botanical creations crafted from polyurethane-coated textiles, often encased within transparent acrylic panels, Ant Hamlyn injects humor into the narrative of art history.
Drawing inspiration from iconic Western art forms such as vanitas still lifes, he assembles textile reliefs that resonate with our present-day experiences. His art reflects themes of hedonism, transience, aesthetics, and the everyday, with elements like fast food, houseplants, and a lively bar cart.
Hamlyn traditionally specialized in whimsical flora, but he is now expanding his exploration of still-life compositions. Pieces titled “Greasy Spoon,” “Shelf Life,” and “Drive-Thru” feature motifs of culinary delights and trendy home accessories, reminiscent of the quirky visual narratives often found on Instagram, where individuals are just out of the picture.
These works were recently showcased by Moosey, and you can view more of Hamlyn’s creations on his official website and on Instagram.
