Controversial activist Linda Sarsour is actively supporting socialist Zohran Mamdani in his bid to become NYC’s next mayor.
Sarsour, known for her anti-Israel stance and support for Hamas, is using her platform to promote Mamdani’s campaign and urging left-leaning individuals to join the Democratic Party before the June 24 primary.
Both Sarsour and Mamdani, members of the Democratic Socialists of America, were involved in campaigns like the “Uncommitted National Movement” and “Leave it Blank NY” during the previous presidential race.
They are now rallying support for Mamdani in the Democratic mayoral primary, with Sarsour encouraging her followers to register as Democrats to vote for Mamdani.
Political consultant Hank Sheinkopf believes that Sarsour and other far-left activists see Mamdani as an opportunity to advance their agenda in New York City.
While Mamdani has faced accusations of antisemitism, he continues to advocate for his beliefs through different strategies compared to Sarsour’s more confrontational approach.
Despite being a newcomer in the mayoral race, Mamdani has been successful in fundraising, with substantial contributions from Sarsour and the DSA.
A recent survey showed Mamdani gaining support among Democratic voters, positioning him as a contender alongside more established politicians like Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams.
Community leaders, particularly in Jewish communities, are prepared to mobilize against Mamdani if they perceive him as a genuine threat due to his controversial views and rhetoric.
