“I’ve always adored capes; they’re my go-to for any event,” reveals Anya Taylor-Joy. “I don’t see them as limited to special occasions. If I could, I would wear capes daily.” Fortunately, Jonathan Anderson outfitted her in a splendid cape for the front row of his inaugural Dior womenswear showcase during Paris Fashion Week.
“I was instantly captivated and thought of Catherine Deneuve in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg—that also influenced the hairstyle!” she adds.
As a longtime Dior muse, Taylor-Joy embraces the brand’s sophisticated silhouettes, luxurious sheer fabrics, and elegant gowns adorned with bows. Under Anderson’s direction, these timeless elements and intricate details seem set to persist: she donned a houndstooth cape with a flowing hem paired with a sculpted cropped white shirt, a dramatically flared black mini-skirt, and sleek pointed stilettos. Her striking icy blonde locks were styled by her loyal hairstylist Gregory Russell, who fashioned a chic half-up, half-down style secured with a solitary black ribbon. Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell utilized Dior Beauty to craft a stunning bronze smoky eye, complemented by a toffee-brown lip and a pearly peach highlight.
“I was truly impressed by the structures Jonathan introduced,” Taylor-Joy commented on the show, highlighting the innovative and unexpected elements the new creative director brought to the classic designs of the house. “There was a stunning veil that draped over half the face, but instead of hanging down, it was designed to rise up, which I found beautiful. I also loved a stunning pair of jeans and a lovely white capelet elegantly tied around the neck with a bow. And of course, the winged gown—it was breathtaking!”
Her current routine revolves around filming (with her upcoming movie Sacrifice—featuring Charli XCX, Chris Evans, and Salma Hayek Pinault—on the way), leaving little time for elaborate dressing. “I try to put more effort into my downtime looks, but honestly, I usually start with something I really want to wear and build the outfit around that,” she shares.
However, when in Paris, she embraces the role of a flâneuse. “I adore wandering! I have a habit of walking at unusual times, making me feel a bit like a ghost in the city,” she says. “Fewer people notice me, and it’s magical to experience typically crowded places in their tranquility. There’s such an artistry to it. So yes—I love to explore the nighttime charm of Paris!”
