In a striking contrast to the feeble resistance exhibited by ten Senate Democrats against Trump, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) announced a notable companion for his upcoming western leg of the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour: the dynamic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The Sanders political team shared the following announcement:
Next weekend, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will embark on the third leg of his national “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here” tour, aimed at exposing the alarming takeover of the national government by billionaires and large corporations, alongside a troubling drift towards authoritarianism. Notably, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will join him for the entirety of the tour. Special appearances will also feature Representatives Greg Casar (D-TX) and Steven Horsford (D-NV).
This tour strategically targets districts that were narrowly won by Republicans in the 2024 elections, functioning as a pressure campaign intended to compel vulnerable congresspeople to reject any plans for cuts to essential services like Medicaid, housing, nutrition, and education—all in the name of preserving tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.
During the initial five stops of this tour, Sen. Sanders attracted over 15,000 attendees and witnessed overflow crowds across four states, including Omaha, Iowa City, Kenosha, Altoona, and Warren. Additionally, more than 4 million people tuned into the livestreams. The senator has been articulating strategies for Americans to resist the authoritarian tendencies of figures like President Trump and Elon Musk, who are perceived to be steering the country towards oligarchy and kleptocracy.
While some Democrats appear to be blissfully ignoring the gravity of the national situation, progressives and certain liberal Democrats are mobilizing to engage and organize the populace.
PoliticusUSA has been closely following the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour since its inception, and interest is growing across the media landscape as they recognize the palpable energy and enthusiasm from crowds eager to stand up against the status quo.
The participation of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive leaders in this tour is a significant development, one that merits further discussion below.
