The future of smartphones is undoubtedly heading towards foldables, and Apple is not far behind in this trend. While major manufacturers like Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Motorola, and Honor have already introduced foldable devices, Apple has yet to jump on the bandwagon. However, rumors suggest that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone, but the release date might still be a few years away.

According to reports from various sources, including The Information, Ming-soon Kan, and Weibo blogger Fixed Focus Digital, Apple’s foldable iPhone may not be released until at least 2026 or possibly even as late as 2027. There have been speculations about delays in the development process due to issues with display suppliers, particularly Samsung failing to meet Apple’s standards.

Despite these delays, analysts like Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo have suggested that Apple may release two foldable devices in 2026, with one being a flip-style phone and the other a foldable iPad/MacBook hybrid. However, TrendForce analysts believe that the release might be pushed back to 2027. In contrast, Jon Prosser at FPT on YouTube believes that all of Apple’s foldable projects have been canceled for the time being.

In terms of pricing, it is difficult to predict the cost of Apple’s foldable device as it will depend on various factors such as the type of device, features, and market competition. However, if Apple follows the trend of other premium foldables, the price could be on the higher end.

As for the design of the foldable device, rumors suggest that Apple is exploring different possibilities, including a book-style device with a cover screen that opens to reveal a small tablet or a flip-style phone similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip. There have been patents filed by Apple that hint at innovative hinge designs, dual-screen prototypes, and even a tri-folding smartphone concept.

While the exact details of Apple’s foldable device remain speculative, it is clear that the tech giant is working towards joining the foldable smartphone market. Whether it will be a foldable iPhone, iPad, or MacBook hybrid, Apple’s entry into the foldable arena is highly anticipated by tech enthusiasts. If and when the foldable device is released, it is expected to compete with other flagship foldables in the market.
