Apple in Talks to Acquire Formula 1 Streaming Rights
Exciting news for Formula 1 fans in the U.S.! Apple is reportedly in discussions to secure the rights to stream Formula 1 races on its platform, according to a report from the Financial Times.
With existing deals in place for Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer, Apple is now looking to expand its live sports offerings by potentially acquiring the rights to broadcast Formula 1 races. This move comes as ESPN’s current F1 contract is set to expire next year, setting the stage for a competitive bidding process.
The timing couldn’t be better for Apple, as the company recently found success with its F1-themed movie, produced in collaboration with F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton. The popularity of F1-related content is on the rise, with Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” series helping to introduce the sport to a wider audience in the U.S. back in 2019. Additionally, live F1 race viewership has been steadily growing, particularly among young women.
Despite these exciting developments, Apple TV has yet to comment on the potential acquisition of Formula 1 streaming rights.
