Apple Music Introduces AI Transparency Tags for Music Content
Apple Music is revolutionizing the way record labels and distributors can identify AI-generated or AI-assisted content when uploading it to the platform. This move towards transparency is set to reshape the music industry’s approach to utilizing artificial intelligence in music production.
As reported by Music Business Worldwide, Apple recently communicated with industry partners through a newsletter, outlining the introduction of new metadata tags. These tags aim to provide clarity on the use of AI in music creation, allowing distributors to specify the involvement of AI in different aspects of a song such as artwork, track, composition, or music video.
Metadata, traditionally used for organizing files with details like song titles, album titles, and artist names, will now include these AI transparency tags. While this development aligns with user interests, as evidenced by a concept mock-up shared on Reddit, the onus lies on labels and distributors to voluntarily disclose their use of AI technology.
Similar to Spotify’s approach, Apple Music’s initiative highlights the industry’s shift towards acknowledging and embracing AI-driven music production. Platforms like Deezer are also exploring methods to identify AI-generated content, albeit with varying degrees of success due to the complexities of AI detection technology.
In light of these advancements, JS has initiated contact with Apple to gather further insights on this groundbreaking move within the music streaming landscape.
