Apple to Invest $1 Billion in Manufacturing Plant in Indonesia

Indonesia has been in negotiations with tech giant Apple for the past few weeks, following the country’s requirement for smartphones sold domestically to contain at least 40% locally manufactured parts. This led to a ban on iPhone 16 sales in Indonesia, with authorities even confiscating and destroying recent iPhone models.

According to Reuters, Apple is now planning to invest $1 billion in its first manufacturing plant in Indonesia. The plant will focus on producing smartphone components and other parts for Apple products.

This move aligns with Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain and reduce reliance on China. The iPhone 16 is currently manufactured in countries like Brazil, India, and China, while AirPods models are assembled in Vietnam.
