Apply for Rent-Free Studio Space in Brooklyn Through the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program

The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program is offering 17 visual artists the opportunity to have rent-free studio space for yearlong residencies in the vibrant DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. This area is known for its art galleries, independent restaurants, shops, and a community of creative professionals. The studios are conveniently located near public parks, the city waterfront, and various transportation options.

These artist studios are accessible 24/7 and feature amenities such as freight and passenger elevator access, as well as high ceilings to inspire creativity.

The upcoming residency period for the 2026–2027 Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program will run from September 2026 through August 2027. Artists participating in this program will have the opportunity to showcase their work during an open studios weekend in the spring of 2027.

Since its inception in 1991, the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program has been providing artists with a supportive community and a dedicated workspace to create. Each year, artists are selected based on merit from a competitive pool of applicants by a professional jury consisting of artists and members of the Artists Advisory Committee.

The deadline to apply for the residency program is Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:59pm (EST). If you are interested in this unique opportunity, visit thestudioprogram.com/apply to learn more and submit your application.
