The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the 2027 Arts/Industry residency program. This prestigious three-month residency, hosted by Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wisconsin, has been a cornerstone of artistic development since its inception in 1974. Over 600 artists have had the opportunity to participate in this immersive experience, creating ambitious new works in vitreous china, cast iron, and brass.

The Arts/Industry residency program offers a unique opportunity for artists to work alongside industry professionals at Kohler Co. Four artists are selected for each cohort, with two residents working in the Kohler Co. Pottery and two in the Foundry. Previous experience with clay or metalworking is not required, as the program focuses on artists who are interested in exploring and adapting industrial processes in their practice.

Participants in the Arts/Industry residency receive a range of benefits, including 24/7 studio access, free industrial materials, equipment usage, technical support, photographic services, housing accommodations, round-trip transportation, and a monthly honorarium. Artists have the option to choose between working in the Pottery or the Foundry, depending on their artistic preferences and goals.

This collaborative program is made possible through the partnership between the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nonprofit arts organization based in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Kohler Co., a leading global manufacturer of kitchen and bath products headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin. Funding for the residency is provided by both organizations, highlighting their commitment to supporting and nurturing artistic innovation.

The deadline to apply for the 2027 Arts/Industry residency is February 28, 2026. Interested artists can find more information and application guidelines on the JMKAC website at jmkac.org/applications. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to be a part of a long-standing tradition of artistic excellence and collaboration in the heart of Wisconsin. Apply now and take your artistic practice to new heights at the Arts/Industry residency program.
