A college student in Florida has been arrested after allegedly ordering 1,500 rounds of ammunition to his dorm room and being found in possession of a semi-automatic rifle. Constantine Demetriades, 21, was apprehended at Rollins College in Winter Park after security personnel flagged his online purchase of a large quantity of ammunition.

Upon investigation, police discovered an AR-15 rifle hidden under Demetriades’ bed, along with six magazines, tactical gear, knives, a security vest, ear protection, and a pistol storage case. Despite Florida’s open carry laws, the liberal arts college prohibits firearms on campus.

Demetriades, a senior at Rollins College, admitted to knowing about the school’s weapons policy but claimed to have brought the rifle to campus after purchasing and registering it in New Jersey during Thanksgiving break. He asserted that he only intended to use the firearm for recreational shooting and was unaware that his New Jersey concealed carry permit was invalid in Florida.

The student insisted that he had only brought the gun to campus on one other occasion and maintained that he had no malicious intentions. He has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property and is currently prohibited from returning to campus pending further investigation.

Rollins College has issued a statement confirming the incident and stating that they are conducting their own inquiry into the matter. The student has cooperated with both college officials and law enforcement during the investigation process.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to campus policies and regulations regarding firearms. The college is taking the matter seriously and will continue to follow the appropriate procedures to ensure the safety and security of its students and staff.
