The Arab nations have agreed to recognise Israel for the first time in history. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to accept a ceasefire deal is hindering the path to peace in Gaza, according to Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera.
Congressman Bera expressed his frustration in an exclusive interview with NDTV, stating, “Benjamin Netanyahu is standing in the way of the ceasefire deal.”
Discussing the challenges of reaching a ceasefire agreement, Congressman Bera emphasized the need for cooperation from both Hamas and Prime Minister Netanyahu. He urged Netanyahu to accept the ceasefire deal and work towards the release of hostages.
While acknowledging the willingness of Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations to establish relations with Israel, Congressman Bera stressed the importance of a ceasefire to initiate discussions on a two-state solution. He criticized Netanyahu for impeding progress in this regard.
Ami Bera, the longest-serving Indian-American Congressman in the House of Representatives, highlighted Vice President Kamala Harris’ stance on the Gaza crisis and her commitment to achieving a ceasefire and ensuring the safe return of hostages.
He mentioned that Vice President Harris, along with President Biden, recognizes the need for both Jewish and Palestinian populations to live securely and peacefully.
The Gaza conflict, which has resulted in over 40,000 casualties, has persisted despite mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. The failure to reach a resolution underscores the urgency of addressing the longstanding tensions between Hamas and Israel.
