âHeated Rivalryâ Creator Jacob Tierney Discusses Casting Choices for New Queer Sports Drama
During a recent interview with Xtra, “Heated Rivalry” creator Jacob Tierney shared his perspective on the casting process for the new HBO series. Tierney emphasized that the real-life sexualities of the show’s stars, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, are not relevant compared to the enthusiasm and commitment they bring to their roles.
Tierney explained, “When casting for these roles, you can’t ask questions about their personal lives. What matters most is their enthusiasm and willingness to dive into the work.” He commended both Williams and Storrie for their dedication to portraying their characters authentically, regardless of their sexual orientations.
In “Heated Rivalry,” Williams and Storrie play hockey pros Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, respectively, who develop a romantic relationship despite being on rival teams. Williams expressed in an interview with Out Magazine that his chemistry with Storrie surpassed expectations and felt incredibly genuine.
Reflecting on the casting decision, Tierney shared an anecdote about Williams’ reaction to working with Storrie. He recalled Williams saying, “The other guy was good, but Connor felt like he was going to pin me down and…” Tierney chuckled, “Well, I think I cast this right.”
With its compelling storyline and authentic performances, “Heated Rivalry” promises to deliver a unique and engaging portrayal of queer romance in the world of sports. Fans can look forward to witnessing the on-screen chemistry between Williams and Storrie as their characters navigate love and competition in this thrilling series.
