Rogers Park Hit by Series of Overnight Armed Robberies and Carjacking
Rogers Park residents were left shaken by a string of violent crimes that occurred overnight, including two armed robberies and a carjacking. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to these incidents.
Details of the Crimes
The first incident took place at approximately 3:21 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Devon, where a 38-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint while sitting inside his SUV. The perpetrator, described as a masked male, forced the victim out of the vehicle and fled the scene in the stolen SUV. The stolen vehicle was later found in the 6500 block of North Lakewood, where it had collided with several parked cars. The carjacker abandoned the vehicle and evaded capture.
Shortly after the carjacking, around 4:25 a.m., at least two masked individuals armed with guns robbed another victim in the 1400 block of West Albion. The suspects, described as Black males in their late teens to early twenties, fled on foot in the westward direction. They were wearing camouflage face masks and black jeans.
Minutes later, in the 1200 block of West Pratt, a woman was robbed at gunpoint of her purse and phone by a Hispanic male wearing a mask and dark clothing. The perpetrator fled the scene in a dark SUV driven by an accomplice.
Crime Trends in Rogers Park
While reports of robberies in Chicago’s Rogers Park District have decreased significantly this year compared to previous years, with a 55% drop from 2024 and a 41% decrease from 2021, the recent incidents serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in the community. Other neighborhoods, such as West Town, have seen an uptick in robbery sprees in recent weeks.
