Chicago Police Issue Warning After Armed Robbers Target Construction Workers
Chicago police have issued a warning following a string of armed robberies targeting construction workers in various neighborhoods across the city. The alert comes in response to recent incidents where armed men have targeted construction crews, stealing wallets and tools at gunpoint.
Last week, two separate incidents were reported in Lincoln Park and Logan Square, where armed men approached construction crews and demanded valuables. In both cases, the suspects brandished firearms and made off with items from the workers’ truck, according to police reports.
The most recent incident occurred in Portage Park, where a video surfaced online showing masked men rifling through a contractor’s van. As the crew returned to their getaway car, one of the suspects was seen carrying a rifle, adding a heightened level of danger to the situation.
In response to these incidents, the Chicago Police Department has identified a group of armed men responsible for robbing victims at two construction sites on the West Side. These robberies are part of a larger pattern that includes similar incidents not involving construction crews, indicating a concerning trend of violent crime in the area.
On multiple occasions in early June, an armed man approached victims, displayed a gun, and demanded their valuables. In one instance, the suspect even stole a vehicle from a victim, further escalating the severity of the crimes. The robberies took place in various locations, including the 4300 block of West Washington, the 4400 block of West Monroe, and the first block of South Kilborn.
The suspect is described as a Black male between 16 and 25 years old, standing 5’7″ to 6’1″ tall and weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark gray hoodie with a white design on the back, black pants, and a black surgical mask, making it difficult for authorities to identify him.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by construction workers and others in the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and awareness of one’s surroundings. The Chicago Police Department urges anyone with information on these crimes to come forward and assist in apprehending the suspects responsible for these violent acts.
