A tense situation unfolded in central Dunedin today as police were called to a property on Heriot Row where a man was reportedly behaving in a threatening manner. After a lengthy standoff lasting over three hours, the man was eventually arrested for wilful damage around 4.15pm.
The 29-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday to face charges related to the incident.
Authorities responded to the scene following a distress call received at approximately 12.40pm. Cordons were quickly established at both ends of Heriot Row as negotiations commenced with the individual, who was believed to be inside the property alone.
As a precautionary measure, officers were equipped with firearms throughout the tense standoff to ensure the safety of all involved.
