Law enforcement officers, including the armed offender’s squad, swarmed the Cuffs Rd residence in Wainoni ahead of the gang’s upcoming fifth-anniversary event in the city.
Superintendent Tony Hill, Canterbury district commander, confirmed that three individuals linked to the Mongols MC were taken into custody following the execution of a search warrant at the Wainoni location earlier today.
During the search of the property and subsequent interviews with four occupants, authorities discovered suspected stolen items. As a result, three men, aged 23, 24, and 26, were arrested on charges related to stolen property.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police presence will remain heightened during the gang’s gathering in Canterbury.
Since its establishment in 2019, the Mongols have operated from a fortified base near State Highway 1 in Burnham.
Members from various regions in New Zealand are anticipated to convene at the Burnham site for the anniversary celebration scheduled from November 7-10. Law enforcement has coordinated a significant operation for the event, with additional officers from the Southern and Tasman districts assisting.
Reflecting on the preparations, Hill emphasized the thorough planning and vigilance required to monitor the gang’s activities during their visit.
Observing the unfolding events, a neighbor recounted witnessing individuals in handcuffs outside the Wainoni property under police supervision. Armed officers issued commands for the occupants to exit the premises with their hands raised.
