Chicago police are actively seeking a suspect who has been using an online dating app to target and victimize women in Woodlawn. The perpetrator has been luring women into apartment buildings, where he then proceeds to pull out a gun, sexually assault them, and rob them of their belongings. This disturbing crime pattern began in early October and has continued up until this week, prompting a community alert to be issued.
According to investigators, the suspect arranges meetings with the victims through the dating app and then leads them into an apartment where he brandishes a handgun. After assaulting the women and stealing their possessions, he goes a step further by using their phones to transfer money from their bank accounts before making his escape.
The first reported incident took place on October 3 in the 6400 block of South Ingleside Avenue, followed by another attack on the same block just after midnight on October 17. The most recent case occurred on Thursday, December 4, in the 6400 block of South Drexel Avenue.
The suspect is described as a Black male, aged between 28 and 33 years old, standing at a height of 6 feet to 6’3”, and weighing between 150 to 250 pounds. He has a light complexion and short hair.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Area One detectives at 312-747-8384 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com, referencing crime pattern 25-1-123CA.
