Armed Robbers Targeting Women Through Dating Apps in Chicago
Chicago police have issued a warning about armed men luring women into robbery traps after connecting with them on dating apps. Three incidents have been reported in the Auburn Gresham and Chatham neighborhoods.
The first victim fell prey to this scheme on September 15 in the 800 block of East 90th Street. Two men forced her into an abandoned building at knifepoint and stole her handgun.
Subsequent victims were robbed at gunpoint in similar fashion. On September 24, a woman was robbed in the 800 block of West 90th Street, and on October 3, another woman was targeted in the 8100 block of South Marshfield.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the suspects are described as two or three Black males aged between 16 and 30 years old.
In response to these incidents, detectives advise caution when meeting people from dating apps in person. They recommend avoiding immediate meet-ups and instead opting for public locations until you are more familiar with the individual.
If a meeting location does not match the description provided or seems unsafe, it is important to verify the address with the person and leave if necessary.
