Arthur Jones, the former NFL defensive lineman who represented teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Commanders, passed away on Friday, October 3, at 39 years old.

Jones had an impressive career spanning seven seasons in the NFL, from 2010 to 2017, and he was part of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2013.

As of Saturday, October 4, the cause of his death remains unclear. Per Syracuse.com, emergency services were alerted to his home in Pompey, NY, when his defibrillator activated.

“We are heartbroken to hear of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing,” stated Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta. “Arthur brought joy to everyone around him. His radiant smile, contagious energy, and unwavering positivity uplifted all those fortunate enough to know him. He exhibited kindness, respect, and a true love for his family, teammates, and friends.”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh expressed his grief, stating his “heart was heavy” with sorrow upon hearing the news.

“Art was an extraordinary individual,” Harbaugh noted, having coached Jones throughout his three seasons in Baltimore. “He was a dedicated teammate and a relentless worker, someone any coach would have pride in leading. His vibrant spirit, love for life, and generous nature left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.”

Harbaugh further commented, “He could genuinely connect with people, bringing joy to our locker room and beyond. His presence radiated positivity and comfort to our team and the entire Baltimore community. Art’s boundless enthusiasm and good nature made him a cherished member of our family. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Art’s family. May his legacy of kindness endure, and may he rest in peace.”

The sports community mourned Jones’s loss on social media, including heartfelt tributes from former Ravens teammate Torey Smith and MMA fighter Conor McGregor.

Smith shared, “RIP to my brother Arthur Jones,” on X, expressing disbelief at the sudden news and recognizing the profound impact of Jones’s life. “We lost a wonderful man and father.”

Smith and Jones were teammates during the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII triumph.

McGregor also shared his condolences, stating, “It’s incredibly sad to hear about Arthur. He was a great man and a gentle giant. Godspeed, Arthur Jones.”
