Cardboard: Infinite Possibilities Exhibition Showcases the Versatility of Cardboard as an Artistic Medium

The upcoming exhibition, Cardboard: Infinite Possibilities, at the renowned Wönzimer Gallery, is set to showcase the endless potential of cardboard as an artistic medium. Curated by the talented Ann Weber, the show will feature works by a diverse group of artists including Narsiso Martinez, Shigeru Ban, and the late Frank Gehry.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is an iconic chair design by Frank Gehry, known as the “Easy Edges Wiggle Chair,” which is made from corrugated cardboard and hardboard. Gehry’s innovative use of cardboard in furniture design is a testament to the material’s versatility and strength.

Ann Weber, whose work is widely recognized for its intricate sculptures made from salvaged cardboard, will also be showcasing her creations at the exhibition. Her sculptural pieces challenge the notion of cardboard as a disposable material, transforming it into stunning works of art.

Narsiso Martinez and Leonie Weber will present their unique approaches to using cardboard in art, with Martinez repurposing discarded produce boxes for his paintings and drawings, and Weber creating crumbled box assemblages that resemble dyed and felted wool installations.

Shigeru Ban, known for his sustainable architecture using cardboard, will also be featured in the exhibition. Ban’s humanitarian design approach showcases how cardboard can be transformed from a cheap packaging material into functional and innovative structures, such as rapid-response shelters.

The exhibition, Cardboard: Infinite Possibilities, will run from January 2 to 30 in Los Angeles. Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of artworks that demonstrate the boundless creativity that can be achieved with a simple and accessible material like cardboard.
