The New Orleans Terror Attack: A Deadly Incident on US Soil
The recent terror attack in New Orleans has shocked the nation, marking one of the deadliest incidents on US soil since 9/11. The death toll has tragically risen to 15 as of Wednesday afternoon.
Initially reported as 10 casualties, the toll increased as five more victims succumbed to their injuries. The perpetrator, Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove a rented F150 truck adorned with an ISIS flag through crowds on Bourbon Street, as confirmed by the FBI.
Comparatively, the 2016 ISIS-inspired massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub claimed the lives of 49 individuals, according to data from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. On a larger scale, the 9/11 attacks orchestrated by Al-Qaeda resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 Americans in 2001.
Further investigations by the FBI suggest that Jabbar may not have acted alone in this heinous act. The discovery of pipe bombs disguised as coolers along Bourbon Street, rigged to a remote detonator in Jabbar’s truck, adds a chilling layer to the attack, as per a Louisiana State Police intelligence bulletin obtained by the Associated Press.
Similar coordinated attacks, like the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 and the San Bernardino massacre in 2015, involved multiple individuals. The former carried out by a brother duo and the latter by a husband and wife.
