The recent fluctuations in the stock market were primarily influenced by President Donald Trump’s earlier threats to annex Greenland. However, as the possibility of military action diminished, specific sectors experienced a rebound. Trump decided to forgo imposing new tariffs on Europe and instead announced a “framework” deal that would grant the U.S. control over limited areas of Greenland relevant to American strategic interests.

One company that saw a significant surge in its stock price was Critical Metals (CRML), which is involved in the Tanbreez rare earths project in Greenland. This project, primarily linked to the Saudi government, has garnered attention from the Trump administration due to Greenland’s significant rare earth resources. Critical Metals stands out as one of the few companies with on-the-ground experience in Greenland, making it a potential target for future investments.

Following China’s retaliatory measures restricting rare earths to the U.S. last year, several rare earth companies gained prominence. The Trump administration signed a landmark deal with MP Materials (MP) and continued to invest in similar companies to secure rare earth resources. This week, the U.S. Commerce Department sealed a $1.6 billion deal with USA Rare Earth (USAR), further highlighting the importance of rare earth elements.

Critical Metals, currently one of the hottest stocks in the market, experienced a surge in its stock price from below $7 to nearly $21 earlier this month. While the stock has cooled off since then, the potential for another upward movement remains high, especially if a deal between Critical Metals and the government materializes.

Despite being pre-revenue, Critical Metals has a market capitalization of approximately $2.2 billion. The company reported $7.3 million in cash and cash equivalents and $171.7 million in total assets in Q3 2025. The volatile nature of rare earth prices and the costly extraction process in Greenland raise questions about the company’s valuation. However, considering the government’s willingness to pay premium prices for rare earths, investing in Critical Metals could prove lucrative in the long run.

CRML stock is considered a high-risk, high-reward investment, banking on Greenland’s continued prominence in the rare earth market. With the construction of a multi-use storage and pilot facility in Greenland underway, Critical Metals is positioning itself for future success. The Tanbreez project, with an exploitation license granted by Greenland’s government, holds significant potential with a projected NPV of $3 billion.

In conclusion, while CRML stock presents a speculative buying opportunity, investors are advised to proceed with caution and monitor developments closely. The company’s success hinges on pilot-plant delivery, funding clarity, and potential agreements with the government. As the rare earth market continues to evolve, Critical Metals could play a crucial role in securing a stable supply chain outside of China.
