Ashleigh Banfield to Depart NewsNation Primetime Slot for True-Crime Podcast
NewsNation has announced that Ashleigh Banfield will be stepping down from her primetime slot to focus on her true-crime podcast, “Drop Dead Serious with Ashleigh Banfield.” While she will no longer host the 10 p.m. weekday show on NewsNation, Banfield will continue to contribute to the network as well as lead a new true-crime digital vertical.
In a new partnership, content from Banfield’s podcast will be featured on NewsNation’s platforms. Banfield, known for her storytelling and credibility, will play a central role in the network’s on-air coverage while also engaging with true crime fans through her podcast.
Michael Corn, president of programming and specials at NewsNation, praised Banfield’s expertise, stating, “Ashleigh is truly one of the best at what she does. Her storytelling and credibility make her the perfect partner as we build a digital destination for true crime fans.”
This move by Banfield follows a trend among NewsNation personalities exploring opportunities outside of traditional television. Dan Abrams, another well-known figure at the network, recently left to focus on his other businesses. The network, which also features Chris Cuomo, Elizabeth Vargas, and Leland Vittert, has not yet named a replacement for Banfield’s primetime slot.
Banfield’s departure from the primetime lineup comes after NewsNation renewed her contract in 2024, recognizing her exceptional coverage of crime and the justice system. Banfield expressed her excitement about leveraging the success of her podcast brand to reach NewsNation’s digital audience and enhance the network’s multi-platform strategy in the true-crime genre.
As Banfield transitions to her new role, NewsNation will be relying on a rotating series of anchors to fill the 10 p.m. time slot. Despite this change, Banfield’s influence in the true-crime genre is expected to continue to resonate with audiences across different platforms.
