Prada and Axiom Space Unveil Stylish Spacesuit for Artemis III Moon Mission

It’s been over 50 years since humans last walked on the Moon, during NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Now, as NASA gears up for its 2026 Artemis III mission to the lunar surface, Axiom Space has teamed up with luxury fashion house Prada to design the extravehicular activity suits for the astronauts.

The collaboration has revealed the sleek design of the spacesuit, a gleaming white ensemble reminiscent of the Apollo era suits. The color was chosen for its ability to reflect heat, crucial for protecting astronauts from the extreme temperatures on the Moon.

Prada’s Lorenzo Bertelli expressed his pride in the collaboration, highlighting the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new challenges in partnership with Axiom Space. The spacesuit design incorporates high-performance materials and features to meet the demanding requirements of lunar exploration.

Designing a functional spacesuit for the Moon is no easy task. The suits must withstand extreme temperatures, airtightness, protection against space radiation, life support systems, comfortable pressure, communication tools, and mobility for the astronauts. The AxEMU suit has undergone rigorous testing with NASA, SpaceX, and Axiom Space to ensure its safety and functionality.
