A 19-year-old man was attacked, beaten, and robbed by a group of “at least ten” high school-age boys while walking home from his job at a pizzeria in Roscoe Village. The local alderman called the incident a “brutal attack.”
The assault occurred as the man was nearing his home on the 3500 block of North Hoyne Avenue at approximately 8:48 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. The attackers reportedly stole the victim’s cash, phone, and keys before fleeing the scene.
“The victim is recovering well and was able to defend himself against the ten attackers who punched and kicked him. However, preventing similar attacks requires holding offenders accountable,” Waguespack noted in a newsletter to his constituents.
Residents intervened during the incident, detaining one 16-year-old boy until police arrived. Chicago police have charged the teenager with felony robbery.
Detectives are currently working to identify the other assailants by examining video footage from nearby homes and businesses.
“If you have video footage that could help identify other individuals from the group seen in the area, please share it with the detectives,” Waguespack urged, encouraging residents to contact investigators. The Chicago Police Department can be reached at caps.019district@chicagopolice.org.
Waguespack added that this group may be linked to other similar incidents reported in the area over the past few years.
An officer who responded to the scene described the group as White juvenile males.
Waguespack encouraged residents to attend the upcoming community policing meeting, scheduled for April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the police auditorium located at 2452 West Belmont Avenue.
