The Interoceanic Train, a monumental project inaugurated in 2023 by former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, is a pivotal component of the Interoceanic Corridor initiative. This ambitious endeavor aims to revamp the rail connection across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, linking the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos to bolster trade and economic growth.
With aspirations to transform the isthmus into a strategic trade route that rivals the Panama Canal, the Mexican government has invested heavily in enhancing port facilities, railways, and industrial infrastructure. The Interoceanic Train not only serves as a means of transportation but also signifies a broader effort to boost regional development and stimulate economic prosperity in southern Mexico.
