Shooting Near Belmont Red Line Station Leaves Two Injured
Chicago police are investigating a shooting that occurred near the Belmont Red Line station early Sunday morning, leaving two people injured. The incident took place at Belmont and Sheffield, where a 25-year-old woman suffered a graze wound and a 22-year-old man was shot in the back.
According to a witness, two gunmen fired shots from a black pickup truck towards an olive green Jeep Cherokee. The witness described seeing flames from the gun barrels as shots were fired from the driver’s window and the window behind the driver. The pickup truck was located on the northwest corner of Belmont and Sheffield when the shooting took place.
The female victim, who was a rideshare passenger, was in the back seat of a gray sedan when she was grazed by a bullet on the forehead. The male victim’s location at the time of the shooting was not disclosed by the police.
At the scene, investigators recovered six shell casings and found that bullets had also struck the rideshare driver’s vehicle. Additionally, a nearby storefront, which was once a Walgreens, had its glass windows and doors damaged by bullets.
