Gun violence continues to plague the streets of New York City, with at least two teens among the three victims shot and wounded in separate incidents at bodegas on Sunday evening. The first shooting occurred on the Upper West Side, where a 16-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and another male was struck in the hip inside a deli on Amsterdam and 92nd Street. Both victims were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition. The suspect, described as a male wearing all black, remains at large.
Less than two hours later, another 16-year-old boy was shot in the left arm, right hand, and groin inside a deli on Sutter Avenue in East New York. The victim was hospitalized at Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. The owner of the Brooklyn deli, 24/7 Eats Deli and Grill, downplayed the incident, stating, “Somebody just came in here and just shot somebody, that’s all. It’s not a big issue.” The suspected gunman in this shooting was described as a male wearing all-gray.
These back-to-back shootings inside city bodegas come on the heels of another violent incident at a Bronx deli, where six people were shot and wounded. In that incident, a 40-year-old mother was shot in the stomach when one of the intended targets used her as a human shield. Her 12-year-old daughter was also hit in the right thigh. The wave of gun violence in New York City is a cause for concern, with suspects in these shootings still on the loose.
Law enforcement authorities are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward and help bring the perpetrators to justice. The safety of residents and visitors in the city is paramount, and collaboration between the community and the police is crucial in combating gun violence and ensuring a safer environment for all.
