Authorities in South Carolina have reported that at least four individuals lost their lives and 20 more sustained injuries, with four in critical condition, following a mass shooting at a local bar early Sunday morning.
The Beaufort County Sheriffâs Office disclosed that the four deceased were found at the scene after an unidentified shooter opened fire on a crowd of hundreds at Willieâs Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island just before 1 a.m.
âWhen deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered a large group of people, several of whom had gunshot wounds,â officials stated.
âIt was reported that there were hundreds present when the gunfire erupted. Many victims and witnesses fled to nearby businesses and properties for safety,â the sheriffâs office added.
The victims were promptly transported to the hospital by Beaufort County EMS on Sunday morning.
Details regarding their identities have yet to be disclosed, and investigators are still working to uncover the specific circumstances surrounding the shooting, as noted by the sheriff’s office.
