In a stark display of civil unrest, at least five officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and six from the California Highway Patrol sustained injuries during violent protests in California on Sunday.
As of Monday morning, law enforcement reported the arrest of 42 individuals involved in anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstrations.
These arrests were conducted by a joint effort from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, LAPD, and CHP.
Charges against the demonstrators, described as far-left rioters, include failure to disperse, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, looting, and arson, as reported by KTLA.
Fortunately, the injuries to the officers were reported as minor, with many treated at the scene.
The unrest was sparked by recent ICE raids targeting undocumented migrants throughout Los Angeles.
In a bizarre twist of events, five Waymo self-driving taxis in the Civic Center area became collateral damage, with three of them ignited in flames, while others suffered slashed tires, smashed windows, and graffiti messages aimed at ICE. Footage from the scene showed thick plumes of smoke as protesters chanted slogans and posed for photographs amidst the chaos.

The situation escalated dramatically on the 101 Freeway, where protesters blocked southbound lanes and hurled concrete chunks, rocks, electric scooters, and even fireworks at CHP officers trapped beneath an overpass.

In response to the escalating violence, the LAPD declared an unlawful assembly and resorted to deploying tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
