The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards has announced that the popular anime “Attack on Titan” has been chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Global Impact Award. This prestigious award is presented to celebrate visionary creators and groundbreaking works that have made a lasting impact on culture, history, and audiences worldwide.
“Attack on Titan” is based on the manga series of the same name, created by Hajime Isayama. The manga, published by Kodansha, has garnered a massive following with over 140 million volumes sold globally.
The anime adaptation of “Attack on Titan” premiered in 2014 and concluded its fourth season in fall 2023. The series received critical acclaim, with three seasons achieving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The finale of the anime series was marked by the release of the film “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack” in late 2024.
Crunchyroll introduced the Global Impact Award to honor works and creators that have significantly influenced popular culture through anime. Gita Rebbapragada, the Chief Operating Officer of Crunchyroll, emphasized the importance of anime in shaping the lives and perspectives of fans, particularly among Gen Z audiences.
The Global Impact Award will be accepted by a representative from the animation studio MAPPA on behalf of all the talented individuals who contributed to “Attack on Titan.”
The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards will premiere on Sunday, May 25 at 5 p.m. Japan Standard Time. Viewers can livestream the event on Crunchyroll channels on YouTube and Twitch, as well as on Sony Pictures Core and the Sony Group Corp. Global and Japan YouTube Channels.
