Aubrey Plaza was offered condolences from the Golden Globes stage after the passing of her husband, director Jeff Baena, on Friday.

Director Brady Corbet, known for “The Brutalist,” recognized Plaza as he accepted the award for best director of a motion picture.

During his acceptance speech, Corbet mentioned three individuals he lost during the making of the film, including his grandfather James, his brother Jerry, and his close friend Kevin Turen, expressing how their influence played a significant role in his success. He concluded by mentioning Plaza and Jeff’s family, acknowledging the difficult time they were going through.

Although Plaza was scheduled to be a presenter at the awards show, she did not attend as she was grieving the loss of her husband, who sadly took his own life, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County medical examiner. Baena was 47 years old.

Baena, a talented screenwriter and director of indie films, had collaborated with Plaza on projects like “Life After Beth,” “The Little Hours,” and “Spin Me Round.” He was also known for co-writing the comedy “I Heart Huckabees” in 2004.

Plaza and Baena had a long-standing relationship, getting married in 2021. Plaza once shared in an interview that being with someone in the same field allowed for a deeper level of understanding and support in their shared journey.

In a previous interview in 2022, Baena expressed his admiration for Plaza’s work, highlighting that he would continue to collaborate with her even if they were not married.
