Aurora Councilman Rob Andrews arrested on suspicion of DUI

Rob Andrews, a newly elected member of the Aurora City Council, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police reports.

The 41-year-old councilman was stopped by Aurora police officers after making an improper U-turn, as stated in a social media post he made. Following sobriety tests during the traffic stop, Andrews admitted that officers concluded he was not in a condition to drive.

Andrews, who was one of four councilmembers elected in November and sworn in on December 1, holds the position of chair on two committees, including public safety, and serves as vice chair on a third.

Expressing remorse, Andrews took full responsibility for his actions, stating, “I am deeply sorry – to my family, to those I serve, and to everyone who expects better from me.”

During the incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday on South Chambers Road, near South Chambers Circle, Andrews was observed by an officer splitting lanes and making wide turns, according to Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan.

Andrews was apprehended for suspected DUI, driving with excessive alcohol content, unsafe lane changes (weaving), and making an improper left turn, Moylan confirmed.

Following his arrest, Andrews spent the night in the Aurora Municipal Detention Center on a detox hold before being released the next morning on a summons, Moylan added.

In a statement, Andrews acknowledged his commitment to serving the community with integrity for many years, expressing his determination to rebuild trust and demonstrate accountability through his actions. “I am sorry. I will do better, and I will prove it through my actions,” he affirmed.
