Aurora Man Arrested for Second-Degree Murder in Connection with Cherry Creek High School Shooting

A 19-year-old Aurora man, Jorge Trujillo, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the April shooting death of 18-year-old Jose Angel Hernandez near Cherry Creek High School.

According to the Greenwood Village Police Department, officers responded to East Union Avenue near South Yosemite Street in the early hours of April 27 after reports of an SUV with bullet holes and doors open. Hernandez was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat.

Investigations revealed that Hernandez, Trujillo, and two others met up to sell drugs at a Denver club on the night of April 26. An argument ensued between Hernandez and Trujillo over a bag of drugs that Trujillo failed to sell. The altercation escalated, leading to Trujillo shooting Hernandez without warning before fleeing the scene.

Trujillo was captured on surveillance video discussing the incident and expressing the need to vomit. He is currently held at the Arapahoe County Detention Center on a $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday.

It’s important to note that Cherry Creek High School had no involvement in the shooting incident. Stay informed with daily crime news by signing up for our newsletter.
