During the World Cup trophy ceremony, Donald Trump lingered onstage while Spain celebrated their victory, and an Australian broadcaster was caught on a hot mic commenting on the U.S. president’s actions.
Before the final match on Sunday, Trump faced allegations of attempting to make the tournament all about himself. He joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino in presenting the trophy to the winners but took his time to leave the stage.
Despite Infantino’s attempts to move Trump aside, the U.S. president continued to clap and stayed near the team as confetti fell around them. He eventually exited the celebration, a moment often captured by photographers as a highlight for the victorious players.
The incident has amassed 1.2 million views on X.
After their triumph, the Spanish men’s national soccer team shared a photo on their official X account from the trophy presentation with the caption, “🙌🏼🏆 LOS SUEĂ‘OS SE CUMPLEN” (or “DREAMS DO COME TRUE”).
Noticeably absent from the image was Trump, a choice that several critics celebrated on the platform. Some suggested this was an intentional omission, although the photo was likely taken after Trump had left the stage.
