Variety first reported in December 2024 about Luhrmann’s collaboration with Authentic Studios to produce a documentary on Elvis Presley. The film is set to feature never-before-seen footage and recordings of the King of Rock & Roll, offering a fresh perspective on his life and legacy. This project comes on the heels of Luhrmann’s successful biopic “Elvis,” which sparked interest in exploring more about the legendary musician.
As “EPiC” hits theaters this weekend, Authentic Studios is looking to leverage their properties for future projects. With a focus on intellectual property licensing, Authentic Brands Group has become one of the world’s top licensors. The studio is eyeing opportunities with other iconic figures like Muhammad Ali and Marilyn Monroe, especially as the 100th anniversary of Monroe’s birth approaches.
One of Authentic’s upcoming projects is “The Greatest,” a sports drama starring Jaalen Best, Giovanni Ribisi, and Omari Hardwick. The film, produced for Prime Video in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan, delves into the life of Muhammad Ali. Additionally, Prime Video is in pre-production for a project based on Barneys New York, under the guidance of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
Recent hits from Authentic Studios include HBO Max’s “Surviving Ohio State,” Prime Video’s “Iv3erson,” and Netflix’s “Power Moves” and “Beckham.” Launched in 2023, Authentic Studios comprises four production units, each dedicated to creating compelling content around their brands.
