Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri Join Forces for New Rom-Com Series “Prodigies” on Apple TV+
Exciting news for rom-com fans as Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri team up for the upcoming series “Prodigies” on Apple TV+. Sharpe, known for his work on “The White Lotus” and “A Real Pain,” has created this seven-episode comedy and will be taking on the roles of writer and director. The production will be handled by Sister, the renowned company behind “Black Doves.” Edebiri, a multi-award-winning actress known for her performance in “The Bear,” will also serve as an executive producer alongside Sharpe.
“Prodigies” is described as a fresh and unique take on the classic romantic comedy genre. The series will delve into the complexities of long-term relationships through the eyes of a peculiar couple. The narrative follows Didi (played by Edebiri) and Ren (portrayed by Sharpe), two former child prodigies who have been together since childhood. Now in their early thirties, they begin to question whether their ordinary lives are living up to the extraordinary promise of their youth, prompting them to reevaluate their relationship.
The synopsis teases that as personal aspirations and desires clash with their shared existence, the series challenges the traditional romantic narrative that ends once the couple gets together. It poses the question, “Is the real story just beginning?”
Joining Sharpe and Edebiri as executive producers are Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter from Sister, known for their work on acclaimed projects like “Black Doves” and “Giri/Haji.”
Although Sharpe gained international recognition for his acting in “The White Lotus,” he has been a force behind the camera since his directorial debut in 2011 with “Black Pond.” He has also created and directed the award-winning series “Flowers” and worked on projects such as “Landscapers” and “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.” With a BAFTA TV Award under his belt, Sharpe’s talent and creativity are sure to shine in “Prodigies.”
