Tragic Drive-By Shooting Claims Lives of Baby and Young Mother in Hartford, Conn.
On a fateful afternoon in Hartford, Conn., a 4-month-old baby named Messiah Diaz and his 20-year-old mother, Jessica Mercado, fell victim to a senseless drive-by shooting that took place in broad daylight.
The heartbreaking incident occurred while the young family was inside a vehicle, accompanied by an unidentified man, when another car pulled up and unleashed a barrage of gunfire upon them, as reported by the authorities.
All three individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Tragically, both the young mother and her precious baby succumbed to their injuries, while the man is currently recovering from non-life-threatening wounds, as reported by the Hartford Courant.
Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert expressed his shock and dismay over the incident, stating to NBC Connecticut, “Horrible, absolutely horrible. It’s all I can say about that.”
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting, as well as trying to determine the intended target. The case is being treated as a double homicide by the police.
