Authorities are actively seeking the relatives of a baby whose body was discovered by the roadside in Marlborough.Â
The area was cordoned off in the afternoon after the infant was found by a machinery operator shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Marlborough Area Commander Inspector Simon Feltham stated that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.Â
There is significant concern for the well-being of the infant’s mother and extended family.
“We urge them to come forward so that we can provide the necessary support during this difficult time,” Feltham expressed.
The police completed a scene investigation today, allowing Wairau Bar Rd to be reopened to the public.
