The wrestling world was taken by surprise when it was announced that Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston of The New Day are leaving WWE, where they have spent the majority of their careers. An update from Fightful Select has provided insight into the unexpected departure that caught many off guard.
Recently, WWE parted ways with several stars including Kairi Sane, Wyatt Sicks, and Aleister Black, suggesting that further roster cuts were unlikely in the near future. However, it seems the company, based in Stamford, was not finished with its cost-cutting measures.
Thanks for the submission!
In what may be the most surprising exit in recent times, The New Day has reportedly decided to leave WWE. Alongside them, JC Mateo from MFT, who had been with the company for less than a year, and Tonga Loa have also departed.
Fightful Select further elaborated on the reasons for The New Day’s exit from WWE. There was significant shock in the locker room, as Woods and Kingston were seen as long-term fixtures in the company. The decision may have been influenced by a directive from TKO to reduce payroll by “millions of dollars.”

Could The New Day join AEW?
Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have accomplished nearly everything possible in WWE, making their credentials worthy of the Hall of Fame.
Their decision to leave might be driven by a desire for new challenges. If so, AEW could be a likely destination. The Fightful Select report mentioned that many within AEW are already advocating for their signing.
The possibility of a match between The Elite and The New Day has been a long-standing dream for fans. Should Woods and Kingston join Tony Khan’s promotion, this dream could become reality. However, with Big E’s retirement, a three-way match is unlikely, leaving The Young Bucks vs. The New Day as the perfect matchup.
