The spinoff series from “Bosch,” titled “Ballard”, has officially been picked up for a second season by Amazon Prime Video, as reported by Variety.

“We’re thrilled to announce that the ‘Bosch’ universe will further expand with a second season of ‘Ballard’ for our global Prime Video audience,” said Lauren Lancaster, who leads US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions for Amazon MGM Studios. “The reception to ‘Ballard’ has been remarkable, connecting with viewers around the globe thanks to its compelling storytelling and the exceptional performances by Maggie Q and the rest of the cast. We eagerly anticipate fans experiencing all that Season Two has to offer.”

Initially launched on Prime Video last July, the inaugural season of this police drama features Maggie Q as Det. Renée Ballard, a character rooted in the novels by Michael Connelly, “starting on the overnight shift at the Hollywood station and later moving into the Cold Case Unit, as she strives to gain respect within the department’s hierarchy,” according to the official synopsis.

“We are incredibly thankful to continue exploring Ballard’s journey. Diving deeper into these characters and their world is a true pleasure, and witnessing the audience’s connection with their stories is deeply fulfilling,” commented Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, co-showrunners and executive producers of the series. “Working with such a talented and committed team to bring this universe to life is a thrill, and we can’t wait to unveil what we have planned!”

The cast features not only Q but also includes Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo. Additionally, Titus Welliver made a guest appearance in Season 1 as the retired Det. Harry Bosch.

Michael Connelly expressed his appreciation, stating, “It’s a significant honor to see my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s because of the fans’ ongoing support that we can keep this going. I’m particularly grateful to Maggie Q for perfectly embodying Renee, honoring the character as we venture into the next phase of her story.”

The upcoming second season of “Ballard” is produced by Connelly, Alaimo, Sherwood, Henrik Bastin, Jasmine Russ, and Trish Hofmann, with Theresa Snider as co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures.
