Banijay America’s A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic has appointed director and writer Max Zunino as the executive director of development, a newly established role.
Zunino will collaborate closely with Santiago Zapata, the executive VP of Content, who became part of the young company in August of the previous year.
Zapata commented: “Max’s outstanding narrative insight, paired with his dual expertise as a director and screenwriter, embodies the creative strength we seek. His appointment exemplifies our goal to partner with the region’s leading creative minds and develop a collection of stories for a global audience.”
In addition to directing the series “Collision” (“Colisión”) for HBO Max and the Fabula-produced “The Dentist” (“El Dentista”) for ViX, Zunino’s writing credits include “This Is Not Berlin,” an acclaimed coming-of-age film set in the punk rock/New Wave scene by Hari Sama, Netflix’s political drama series “Tijuana,” and Prime Video’s dark comedy series “Freddy Larios.”
Zunino stated, “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the leadership and broader teams at A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic and EndemolShine Boomdog. My focus is on shaping development strategy and creating original projects that resonate with audiences worldwide.”
Originally from Uruguay and now based in Mexico, Zunino has earned numerous awards and recognition in both television and film. His first feature film, “Open Cage” (“Los Bañistas”), which he wrote, directed, and produced, won the esteemed Fipresci Prize at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal. It also received the Guerrero Press Award at the Guadalajara Intl. Film Festival, among other accolades.
His second feature, “Mist” (“Bruma”), shot in Berlin and Mexico City, which he also wrote, directed, and produced, was screened in the Visions section of the 2017 Berlinale EFM and premiered globally at the 2017 Raindance Film Festival.
Zunino is a founder of Room Service, a company that has produced a diverse array of fiction content for platforms such as Amazon, Netflix, Story House, Sony, Fox, Argos, and Televisa, among others.
He is also a founding member and board member of Tinta, the Mexican Association of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Writers.
Established in January 2025 by Endemol Shine Boomdog and Brazil’s A Fábrica, A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic, under the leadership of Luiz Noronha, has several projects underway, including a collaboration with Leonardo Padrón, announced last year.
