A multi-part animated film adaptation of “Batman: Knightfall” is in the works, as reported by Variety.
The news was unveiled during the New York Comic-Con at the Warner Bros. Animation panel titled “The Art Knight: Batman in Animation.” The initial segment of “Batman: Knightfall” is expected to release in 2026, with the specific premiere date to be confirmed later.
This film draws inspiration from the celebrated Batman comic storyline of the same title, originally published in three parts between 1993 and 1994. The original creators include Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent.
It is considered one of the finest Batman narratives ever told.
The official logline specifies, “When the enigmatic giant known simply as Bane unleashes Batman’s entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader faces his ultimate mental and physical challenge.”
“Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall” is helmed by director Jeff Wamester, with a script written by Jeremy Adams. Oversight is provided by supervising producer Rick Morales, alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan serve as executive producers.
Despite being a highly regarded tale, “Knightfall” has not previously been adapted directly for the screen, although it has influenced several Batman projects over the years. Notably, certain aspects were integrated into the film “The Dark Knight Rises,” featuring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Tom Hardy as Bane.
Other notable animated Batman films include “Batman: Death in the Family,” “Batman: The Killing Joke,” and “Batman: Under the Red Hood.”
