Baum und Pferdgarten Pre-Fall 2026 Collection: A Blend of City and Countryside
Building on the equestrian theme of their spring 2026 collection, creative directors Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave found inspiration in an old Central Park Horse Show ad that featured a horse in a subway carriage. Describing the image as both strange and beautiful, Baumgarten highlighted the contrast between city life and the countryside. The duo also drew inspiration from Bruce Davidson’s photographs of women dressed up on the subway in the ’70s and ’80s, exploring how clothing can provide a sense of escape during transitions.
These juxtapositions have always been at the core of Baum und Pferdgarten’s aesthetic, with past collections playing with the balance between masculine and feminine elements, as well as blending sportswear and workwear. The pre-fall collection showcased a mix of sturdy denim chore jackets paired with girlish polka dots, and boxy suede jackets juxtaposed with romantic floral motifs. Classic pieces were reimagined with modern twists, such as a cropped checked blazer with a bow fastening and a pinstripe denim skirt featuring asymmetric button detailing.
Overall, the collection exuded a softer vibe compared to the brand’s previous structured designs, reflecting a desire for freshness and lightness in the midst of global challenges. Baumgarten noted, “We’re all eager for something more fresh and light,” hinting at a shift towards a more relaxed and easy-to-wear aesthetic.
